I saw this place on Yelp when looking for home decor stores. What a nice Asian themed store. They have a lot of Asian plates, jewelry, figurines and wall decorations. They also have lots of different fabrics to make homemade comforters and pillows.
Wanda , the owner was so helpful in showing different choices.
I got a wonderful brass meditation bowl. I'll definitely go back to this store again!
This is a treasure trove of wonderful finds! Great home decor & gifts are literally sprinkled all over the store & the owner, Wanda, can help you find what you're looking for with a friendly smile & a warm welcome :). Truly enjoyed shopping here & will definitely be back again!
Parking is metered street parking, but there are plenty of spots near the store front.
I have seen this store for years but never went inside. I have missed something very special. My specific reason for visiting was to look at the selection of meditation cushions (zafu) and mats (zabuton). The store is tiny and full of wonderful things. Wanda, the owner, was very helpful. The zafu is filled with buckwheat and I tested one. Initially I was going to get the plain but Wanda showed me several with printed fabrics. I walked out with a lovely cushion and mat - the price was fair, not cheap, but it will be for something I will use almost daily. She also showed me her futons and a lovely tatami bed. Her choice of fabrics/colors is wonderful. These last items are not inexpensive, but given their artisan quality I am looking forward to saving and going back in about six months for at least a futon, if not the tatami frame. Wonderful, lovely store.
Wanda was great! Helped me put together my new guest bedroom for my grandmother to stay at -- so tranquil! Thank you so much for helping me out!
Aside from the fact that Sugi has an abundance of different items you could spend a great deal of time admiring, the owners themselves are amazing people full of knowledge about the items and are happy to speak with you about anything. I've been coming to Sugi for years & have always loved the atmosphere and the company of the family who runs the store. I have recently started taking the calligraphy class which is available there, along with learning the Chinese language and how to paint traditional landscapes with scrolls. It's simply a great experience and well worth it to say the least. The quality of the lessons are just as amazing as the quality of the items you use and are free to purchase. I recommend anyone to go to Sugi who is interested in learning traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting, or if you're just looking for something beautiful to add to your home. Come check the store out, you will be very glad you did!!
This store is a cute little Japanese store nestled in Lafayette, Ca. It is right next to a creek which adds to the ambiance of the whole store (especially with the soothing music!). I walked in was amazed at the great selection of fabrics, gifts, futons, etc. They specialize in customized bedding and futons. The lady that worked there was really helpful in giving suggestions as to what would match with what. This is a great place to go to buy gifts for anyone young and old with the holidays coming up!
Sugi Fine Bedding Gifts is really fun and unique
Love this place! A family member lived in Japan and missed it when they came back so I went here and bought them a bunch of things for their new apartment. Really cute place.
I wish I lived here! The futons are so comfy and gorgous that I just want to bundle up in them and pass out. The decor creates a warming, inviting environment. Their products are hand-crafted, therefore, far from generic. Wanda and her daughters often operate this cute little store. This family-owned establishment offers personalized customer service, something that you don't often get at similar stores. Cute products, colorful futons and more in a zen, warm environment.
Great selection of Asian items and beautiful linens and Japanese items. A wonderful surprise!
This store rocks. The owner was incredibly patient with my indecisiveness and ultimate purchase decisions. She sells tansu's, Chinese silk paintings, custom futons, and fabulous sheets in cool colors at 1500 tread count. After going here I looked around at other Asian style home decor stores and think she has the best prices for the quality she sells. This is not Rosewood House level on the furniture, and she's not trying to be: she has interesting, affordable small pieces to accent etc. Case in point, the 1500 thread count sheets were about $125 a set. Also, I like to enjoy my purchases immediately and most things are in stock and ready to go.
Sugi is not only a peaceful place to take refuge, but a treasure chest full of unusual Japanese gems, from calligraphy to tea ware. Wanda the proprietress, happily attends to shoppers and has helped me find just the right thing for all sorts of occasions and events. I lead a meditation group and keep Sugi business cards on hand, as it is also a great source for meditation supplies, such as cushions, mats, Buddha statues and incense.
I just bought two really nice dragon coffee mugs from them for xmas gifts for an aunt and uncle. There's really a lot of stuff in here. Super friendly and helpful staff.
Love this place. Came in here because of an add I received in the mail. Ended up wanting and buying more than I planned on. Love the mugs I got there on discount and also purchased some nice orchids and pots!! Will definitely come back for gifts and personal asian items. The owner is extremely welcoming and I recommend this shop to everyone!!
I wandered in here the other day and was so surprised to find a store with an authentic Japanese feel in downtown Lafayette. I normally drive out to Japantown because of my obsession with all things Japanese, but found out that this place has everything I would want at a lower price. I decided to get a gift here for a friend's birthday and started talking to someone who worked at the store. She mentioned it was family owned and they have been around for over ten years. It always feels great to support a local business, especially having worked in a small business myself.
End of story: my friend loved the gift and I'm definitely coming back. Thanks guys!
I was searching for a futon as a bed for my new house, as well as some new furniture and decor. I read the reviews for several stores before deciding on this place. I am totally impressed. This place is awesome. I was helped by the owner today in finding a futon. He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the materials and pricing of the futons. He showed me all of the options and explained how everything worked to me--it was quite fun actually. I chose a beautiful cotton teal futon cover and ordered an equally as attractive duvet cover for a new comforter. I haven't purchased the futon itself yet as I am waiting until I move into my new home. The price was a great deal for such high-quality and handmade pieces. I am not planning on purchasing a frame, but I may do so in the future. I will certainly visit this shop for years to come for all of my bedding and decor needs. The service is excellent, the products are great, and the location is easy to access in a beautiful location. Highly recommend!
This place has so much great stuff, It would take days to see everything. I noticed a pretty enameled elephant for my mom in their window, and I'm glad I went back for it. She's going to like it for Mother's Day. I wanted this statue of Jizo...I've said it before, I need more money. Oh, and they had this beautiful blue jade bracelet. Perfect shade of pale blue. If anyone I know is reading this the jade bracelet near the cash register would be lovely for my birthday. Just saying. :)
Simply the best.
I've made a yelp account just to review this place, and give a shout out to Wanda in particular. Such a sweet lady with an incredibly curated shop.
One of the most inspiring, beautiful stores I've ever been to.
Wanda sources pieces from distributors around the world and the store is full of unique gifts. She makes bedding herself and will fulfill commissions using high quality fabric for an incredibly reasonable price.
She's clearly passionate about what she does, and was happy to talk with me about traditional beds and her process without pressuring me to buy any of it (although I'd love to someday).
I left with a bag of some small sculptures, art to hang up, an incense burner, and new ideas for decorating my dream house.
Check this place out!
Lovely shop, although really really packed. There's something to look at in every nook and cranny. They do bedding and it looks beautiful. It seems like a Japanese store at first, but it's actually "Asian" themed. We got my mother in law a buckwheat pillow and a yard spinner, and a pretty handmade card. I would go back for a pretty gift.
I love Sugi! I used to come here on my lunch break from work over nine years ago and wander around the treasures and dream about traveling to Japan. Truly a magical place that inspired me to travel after I graduated from Saint Mary's College. I am so incredibly happy this local gem is still going strong.
Wanda, the owner, is so friendly and highly knowledgeable and she helped me find a ginkgo sushi set that reminded me of one I always wanted back in college. I also purchased several other items including a gorgeous stone Pixiu and an adorable frog netsuke.
I highly recommend this shop to anyone looking for high quality gifts and I'm so happy to have been able to introduce my little sister to Sugi before she starts her own SMC journey. :)
